He returns to him to have it removed. Tugginmypudha agrees that it can be removed now, and explains how to do that; to Pitka's surprise no key is needed.

Mule Variations must be one of my favorite albums ever...i heard a song off it (chocolate jesus) on WRNR once when it came out (1999) and could not get it out of my head... i think i bought it at the virgin mega store in new york city when i was on a school trip a couple weeks later...i had no idea that tom waits was famous...i was 13 or 14 and thought that "whats he building in there" song was cool...long story short...i can not think of an album that i have listened too so consistently for such a long period of time...and i dont even think all the songs are amazing (they are all good but its got 16 tracks... its not like astral weeks where there are like 7 songs and they are all perfect)...i keep coming back to it...the younger version of myself might have gotten into mule variations for its more campy material but the following songs are the jams...The melencholy jams

this very first one must be one of the best songs i've ever heard

and it is the only song i can think of that has made tears come out of my face for indiscernible reasons (still don't know wether it makes me happy or sad)

This is the best documentary i've seen this year for sure (it's not from this year and i haven't seen many anyway)... (didn't enter the fray before but i loved "Capitalism: A love Story")...i can not believe i've never seen it...

unfortunately it reinforced all kinds of notions that i had about the south and, more broadly (maybe more importantly), the way in which seemingly ancient history continues to inform people's decisions and worldview's

while the people under the influence of the past remain blissfully unaware of their motivations...

i want all my friends to see it so we can talk about it...It is fucking great...understated and better for it...

this film is as complex as issues of race and the history of race relations in the south seem to be...and it is streaming on netflix!!!!

I feel like the least i can do here is tell all my friends how much i like this band (Sonny and the Sunsets)...they are great...or at least i really like them...listen to them...i haven't listened to their new album that much but it sounds great especially the song "too young to burn"...if you go to their myspace you can listen to it and "mario" from the previous album which is a wonderful song...about a year ago when they opened for jeffrey lewis they played and blew my mind...i had already been listening to sonny smith's first album since i lived with gordon and found it in a rejection bin for promo CDs from bands that were trying to play at the parkside...long story short... better with the band... better live... (he read poems in between songs and i wasn't bummed)...listen to them

ad@m posted about a grumpy old man article in a grumpy old newspaper...and i remembered that andy rooney is the king of grumpiness...so here are some examples that will hopefully begin to give some sense of the breadth of this mans grumpiness.

1) here he is disturbed at how many things people are carrying these days!

2) here he is upset about public art projects for an unspecified reason! (this one is particularly idiotic)

3) in this one he simply says what he saw in the newspaper. thats it. and he apparently knows literally nothing about anything?

4) in this one he just shows the viewers things that he had in his kitchen drawer.

I've been spending a good deal of time listening to these songs so I'll try to say a bit about each of them...

1. Andy Irvine's version of Woody Guthrie's "Ballad of Tom Joad"

This song is amazing mostly because the original version is so good but this version seems to be sung

and played with a more frenetic, more serious delivery that better matches the subject matter...also the instrument he is playing sounds awesome...its called a bouzouki...it's a greek instrument that andy irvine and others helped incorporate into traditional irish music...(Chris, do you listen to shit like this? im wondering if there is a contemporary scene for protest music and i think you might know.)

2. Willie O'Winsbury/Farewell, Farewell

these two songs are great...willie o' Winsbury is an amazing child ballad which had its lyrics set to the tune of another old child ballad by andy irvine and his band Sweeney's Men, this tune is the one heard in the video below and in subsequent versions...the lyrics have all the wonderfully bizarre qualities that i love about old english/scottish ballads...the king returns from spain to find his daughter looking pregnant, and when he finds it is a peasant (willie) who is sleeping with her he tries to have him hung...but when the king sees how beautiful willie is he offers him his daughter and much of his land to rule...What the fuck...and all this is communicated through these archaic phrasings (the song is at least 230 years old)... richard thompson wrote different lyrics to the tune for fairport convention's farewell, farewell...
